Make breakfast exciting with this delicious take on the classic French Toast! Since I’m a huge fan of crunchier French toast, I used a crusty Italian bread and dipped it in a flavorful mixture that tastes just like hot chocolate!

Not only is this recipe delicious, but it is also extremely easy to make! No eggs, no dairy, just a few simple ingredients.

Easy step-by-step instructions

1. Cut 8 slices from a loaf of artisan Italian bread, I used ALDI’s Take & Bake Italian bread.

3. Melt a little bit of butter in a non-stick skillet on medium-low heat. Dip a slice of bread in the chocolate mixture for a few seconds on each side.

4. Cook the French toast for 3 minutes on each side or until golden brown. Continue dipping and cooking the rest of the slices of bread.

What can I do with the leftovers?

  • Leftover batter: If you have a little bit of batter left simply place it in an airtight container in the fridge and use it the next day.

  • Leftover French toast: If you have a few slices of prepared French toast leftover, place it in an airtight container in the fridge. To reheat the French toast, place it on a baking sheet and bake at 375 degrees for 8 – 10 minutes until heated through.

A few tips

  • You can use many different types of bread for this recipe! My kids prefer their French toast with white bread instead and it also comes out delicious but softer.

  • Depending on the type of bread you use it will absorb more or less liquid. The Italian bread I used absorbs way less mixture than white bread would.

  • Don’t let the bread sit in the batter for more than a few seconds, the bread will get soggy and we do not want that! Dip the pieces of bread once you’re about to cook them.
